There are a few types. Natural citric acid from citrus is not bad, but what they are using for most commercial processed food is baaad mmmmkkkaayyyy.

It is genetically modified black mold, Aspergillus niger Most often made using GM corn syrup in china that contains glyphosate.
Also considered a form of MSG, an excitotoxin.
